St. George Golf Weekend

With a golf trip to St. George planned for last weekend, I decided to throw a camera in with me and try and capture some of the beautiful scenery and incredible golf courses of Southern Utah. Since I haven't posted anything on the blog for a while, I'll put on a few photos from last weekend.

"Entrada at Sunrise"
(A big thank you to Brian...what an amazing course!)

The vistas of Sky Mountain Golf Course were almost as amazing as the 70 year old couple that we played our round with...

Entrada Reflections

I'm sure the lava rock on this hole at Entrada has claimed more than just my golf ball...

What an amazing view from the tee box on the 18th hole of Sky Mountain

More Tracy Arm Fjord Photos

I hate to keep putting so many pictures of our cruise through the Tracy Arm Fjord, but the place is truly incredible. Here is some additional information taken from Wikipedia:

Tracy Arm is a fjord in Alaska near Juneau. It is named after a Civil War general named Benjamin Franklin Tracy. It is located about 45 miles south of Juneau and was designated as a wilderness area by the United States Congress in 1980.
The Tracy Arm area covers 653,179 acres and consists of two deep and narrow fjords: Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm. Both fjords are over 30 miles long and one-fifth of their area is covered in ice. The twin Sawyer Glaciers, North Sawyer and South Sawyer, are located at the end of Tracy Arm. The wildlife in the area includes black and brown bears, deer, wolves, harbor seals, and a variety of birds, such as arctic terns and pigeon guillemots. The mountain goats, which are usually found in the higher elevation areas, have been seen near the base of Sawyer Glacier.

In the distance you can see the Sawyer Glacier. We were not able to get any closer due to the amount of ice in the water and the size of our ship. Photos were taken on May 7, 2008.

"Scenic Railway of the World"

Skagway's White Pass & Yukon Route is the "Scenic Railway of the World". Built in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush, this narrow gauge railroad is an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark - a designation shared with the Panama Canal, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty.

The WP&YR climbs nearly 3000 feet in just 20 miles and features steep grades of up to 3.9%, cliff-hanging turns of 16 degrees, two tunnels and numerous bridges and trestles. See the steel cantilever bridge which was the tallest of its kind in the world when it was constructed in 1901.

Experience the breathtaking panorama of mountains, glaciers, gorges, waterfalls, tunnels, trestles and historic sites from the comfort of our vintage passenger coaches.

Tens of thousands of men and 450 tons of explosives overcame harsh climate and challenging geography to create “the railway built of gold.”

Playa Chen Rio, Cozumel

This is undoubtedly one of our favorite places in the world. This is Playa Chen Rio which is located on the backside of the Island of Cozumel. Most tourists never get the chance to see it since it is off the beaten path. The little restaurant here sits on the prettiest beach in Cozumel, and serves whatever seafood they caught that morning. We've been lucky enough to visit on 3 separate occasions, and look forward to going back again. Photo was taken on October 30, 2003.

"El Castillo" at Chichen Itza

This is a picture I took of the pyramid called "El Castillo" at Chichen Itza on the Yucatan peninsula. We have been able to visit this site a couple of times...if you ever get the opportunity, it is well worth it. Photo was taken on October 28, 2003.

Autumn in the Air

This is a picture I took while ATVing in the mountains above Paradise, Utah. This one was also fun since I emailed it into KUTV and KSL and it made it onto the 10:00 news on both stations as part of their "Outdoors" portion of the show and stayed on their websites for a few months. Thanks to Zan Summers for always providing a great place to ride our four-wheelers. Photo was taken on September 23, 2005.

Cache Valley Sunset

A beautiful Cache Valley evening. On this night the sunset was incredible. I was at home, and had no way to get the shot will all of the homes and trees around...so...I grabbed a ladder and got on top of my house. Thank goodness for a tall roofline. If I'd been 10 minutes quicker, the photo would have been amazing. I'm posting the photo simply because of the effort it took to get it. Picture was taken on August 24, 2003.

Seasons Change

I liked the contrast of the farmer's hay still in the field with the changing colors on the hillside. The colors were rich and the lighting was perfect. I took this shot as the sun was setting behind me on September 21, 2003.
